How has the magazine industry evolved in response to social change and technological development?
Have you ever compaired those from the 1940’s to those today?
What about the 1970’s vs today?
Are magazines from the 1990’s differant from what’s being sold now in the 2000’s?
How are the magazines from each of these eras differant?
How has the social lives of citizens affected the way magazines have chaged over the years?
How has technological development affected the way magazines have chaged over the years?
Where these changes for better or for worse?
How well the magazine industry change in the future?
What are your thoughts on this matter?

You are right. You know you are right. You loudly told everyone that you are right. Than you discover… OMG! you were not right. You were wrong.
Someone once said:
The best thing to do when you are wrong is to admit it quickly and emphatically.
How do you feel about this? When you have made a mistake, do you admit you were wrong? Is it hard to do? What happens when you must admit this to your editor? How would this have an impact on your writing career?

oh… waaay more than that… I’m in a tent right now, (actually, it’s a lean-to , made out of pallets, cinder-block, a tarp, and a blanket for the door… there’s a daddy long legs walking cross the screen, and crane flies, mosquitoes, and a ton of moths, bobbing around my light. Crickets waunder by every few minutes, a couple of earwings, several beetles, and ants… plus I’ll bet there’s more that I can’t see, cause it’s pitch black, almost midnight, and I can’t see what’s not in the light here…
A frog even got in on it… he can hopping in across my pillow!
I am getting used to being homeless, but I don’t like it, and I still can’t see how what the town hall and the police are doing to us is legal.

I used to have a wild caught one-eyed pony named Thunder-Puff…
When I was first learning to read, Thunder Hoof, an easy-reader about a wild white pony, was my favorite book. At age 3 I had read and re-read it so many times, that I became obessed with the idea, that I would get a wild caught pony for my 4th b-day… it was all I wanted, I wanted nothing else…
On my 4th b-day we went on a trip… it was a surpise, I was not told where we were going… but we went in the pick-up instead of the car, which was unusual… hours later, we drove up to a horse farm, I have no idea where it was, but there was a beautiful, shaggy black pony with one eye… and I was told she was mine… she rode home in the back of the pick-up, we bought a horse trailer a few weeks later
when I was small I rode her a few times (bare-back, no saddle or bridle), but no one else could get near her, she’d nip at my mom, stomp on my dad’s feet and kick anyone who came up behind her…
the people we had gotten her from didn’t know how old she was, but said that they had had her 14 years, she had been caught in the wild and they were never able to tame her. They explained to us that she had just had a colt, but when they tried to ween it she attacked everyone, that’s why they were giving her away free…
no one was ever sure why I was the only one who could get near her or ride her, but it was speculated that, it was because I was about the same height as the colt that had been taken away from her, and that she had “addopted” me as a replacement.
as I got older, I got taller than her, she was after all a pony, not a horse, so I had to stop riding her when I was about 7 or 8.
as she got older, her fur grew longer and shaggier, and greyer, and her mane and tail grew very, very long… she looked a bit like a mop. She had a simple, rope slip-on “bridle”, (not an actual bridle, for it had no bit, it was more like a collar), with a leash, and instead of rideing her, I took her for walks, like a dog.
I had her for 14 years, makeing her at least 28 when she died, probably a couple of years older… a vet once said she looked older… A LOT OLDER… she said closer to 40 years AT LEAST, she said she’d never seen a horse so old (this was 2 years before Thunder died), she estimated her age based on the fact that she had turned gray, and from looking at her teeth,
for many years, she and I were best friends, she wandered freely around our yard, we never had to mow our lawn as a result!
saddly came the day when her glossy black fur faded to a pale gray, pepperd with white, and her one good eye went blind. She continued to walk very slowly, around the yard, until one day, when she tried to cross the brook, and a rotten board broke and sent her falling into the water below… it was not a long fall, only a few feet, and she was not hurt by it, but it terrified her…. (that was when the vet came over and was shocked to see that we had a horse that was so very old), …
after that, she refused to walk on her own, and would only move if she knew I was walking beside her holding her leash… she refused to leave her stall unless I was with her to guide her… when she heard us get near the brook, she’d lean hard on me, and nearly knock me over… this went on for 2 years… than one day, she refused to go out of her stall at all, and the next day she was dead… died the vet said, of unnaturally old age, adding the comment, that she must have been well loved and well cared for in order to have lived so long.
I have never gotten another horse, but someday, I hope to find another “old reject” like my Thunder Puff was, and give her a home

I don’t know what inspired it, maybe Steve Irwin’s death? But I got out a stack of old National Geographics today and started reading some of the articles.
I came across this:
The article was called “What is life, anyway?”, and it talks about typical scientific stuff to answer that question. The article closes with a little sidebar and graph, which says:
Over eons, life on Earth managed to evolve into millions of forms, each capitalizing on the advantages of a differant ecological niche. This chart arrays major segments of the animal kingdom (this includes humans) according to the numbers of species they contain. Insects rule.
Than is shows a pie-chart which starts these facts:
- Insects 73.4%
- Anthropods other than insects 12.1%
- Invertebrates other than anthropods 10.4%
- Vertebrates other than mammals 3.7%
- Mammals 0.4%
WOW! Us humans are only a percentage of 0.4% of earths “population”!
Well anyways that got me thinking: What if insects were to take over the world? I mean, like , they all got together and decided to wipe out the human race, and all species acted as one and started attacting? Kind of like Alfred Hitchcocks “The Birds”. We wouldn’t stand a chance against an army that size… most of them with poisonous bites or stings?
I know it’s not likely to happen, totaly something out of sci-fi… but what if?
Well, you know me, I can’t think of something like this and not turn it into a writing exercise now can I? So, here it is, this weeks writing exercise for you to try out. What if insects were to take over the world?

Yesterday, there was an ambulance at the house across the street from us. I just found out a few minutes ago what happened… the guy who lived there was out working around in the yard, and fell from the roof… he died before they got him to the hospital! I’m shocked!
I wonder if the town was harassing him too; they’ve been harasing half the people on Portland Ave, and “accidents” like this one and my dad’s last May, have been happening left and right… all us folks that don’t want to give up our land to make way for the outsiders from other states to move in. The are forcing everyone on the street (mostly elderly people whose families have lived in these houses 200 years or more) to “make repairs” to things in the yards and houses, that”don’t match” these socalled new ordanances, that basicly say you have to be a carbon copy clone of Jim Thomas, our town manager.
My dad, the guy down the street, now this guy… I wonder how many more well become disabled or die before someone does something to stop these men from harassing the locals like this.
