The Z-List, EK Edition 1.0: Blogs for Writers

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 · 3 Comments

The Z-List: A great wonderful idea to help advertise blogs. Yes? Yes. I think anyone who has used the Z-List well agree with that. The principle behind the Z-List is the same as a chain letter. In a chain letter, you  mail a letter to five people. One that letter is the addresses of five more people. Each person who recieves a letter, adds five new addresses, and sends those to the five addresses on the letter that they had recieved. The piont of a chain mail is to send the same letter to an ever increasing network. Useualy the letter is an advertisement for something being sold. Basicly it’s a lot of free advertiseing for a company, based on “word of mouth”.

Like the chain letter, the Z-List contains addresses, but it differant in that it never asks you to buy anything. You don’t even have to buy a stamp. The Z-List is the chain mail for bloggers. It gets a blog pingbacks and inbound links, and helps to send more traffic to the blog, hopefully traffic that well stay on to become regular readers.

Anyone can start a Z-List. It’s easy. Just take a list of Blogs which you enjoy reading, and put them in a post on your own blog. Some say not to add your Blog to the list, while others say to go ahead and put your Blog right on the top of the list. Well, it’s your Blog and your list so you can put links to any Blog you please in it.

With the list you leave a message, asking that the next person to read this post, copies it and pastes it into the next post they make on their own Blog. They are free to add as many Blog links to the list as they like, and they are welcome to remove any links that are already in the list, if they feel that theose Blogs are inappropiate to be linked back to their own Blog.

Most Z-Lists start out with five or ten links, but after being passed on to just ten more bloggers, that Z-List can quickly have 100 or more links in it. The advantage of this is, that for each post, that each Blog in each link, well recieve a ping-back for that post. In other words, their Blog becomes linked to your Blog and your Blog to thiers, making it a win-win situation for both your Blog and their Blog, by raising the inbound link ranking with such places a Technorati and Google,  meaning that you Blog moves higher in the ranks on search engins, resulting in more people finding your Blog and giving  you  more readers. Great huh? Absolutely!

Well, I only just discovered the Z-List earlier this week. and searching for more Z-Lists had lead me to one conclusion: most of them are just randomly thrown together with no rhyme nor reason, and so comes my idea for Keyword Specific Z-Lists or links to blogs all on a single topic.

The first of these I shall call:

Quote of the Day

Let no Pleasure tempt thee, no Profit allure thee,

no Ambition corrupt thee,

no Example sway thee, no Persuasion move thee,

to do any thing which thou knowest to be Evil;

So shalt thou always live jollily:

Hillary Clinton’s Blog

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 · 4 Comments

WOW! Politics takes a new level. While searching for new blogs to read and comment about I found this one: Hillary Clinton’s Blog. Well, I admit I’ve never been one to follow politics, mostly because TV ads and televised debates do not interest me at all. I have always said that they should start their own sites (chat rooms/forums/blogs/etc.) where they can talk to the people and interact with the voters directly. Way to go Hillary! Now I have a way to follow the campaign doing what I do anyways: surfing the net! I am also adding this blog to the Z-List.

Popular Food Inspired by Religon…

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Everybody knows McDonald’s. Almost everybody eats at McDonald’s. But did you know  the story behind the Filet-o-Fish sandwich was based on religon? I didn’t, not until I read this article. Copied below:

Filet-O-Fish Inventor Just Wanted More Friday Business

February 26, 2007 by Rich | 0 Comments

The Cincinnati Enquirer:

In 1962, Lou Groen was desperate to save his floundering hamburger restaurant, the first McDonald’s in the Cincinnati area.

His problem: The clientele was heavily Catholic. Back then, most Catholics abstained from meat every Friday, not just during Lent, a 40-day period of repentance that begins this week with Ash Wednesday.

His solution: He created a sandwich that would eventually be consumed at a rate of 300 million a year — the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish.

“Frisch’s (the local Big Boy chain) dominated the market, and they had a very good fish sandwich,” recalled Groen, now 89. “I was struggling. The crew was my wife, myself, and a man named George. I did repairs, swept floors, you name it.

“But that area was 87 percent Catholic. On Fridays we only took in about $75 a day,” said Groen, a Catholic himself. “All our customers were going to Frisch’s.

“So I invented my fish sandwich, developed a special batter, made the tartar sauce and took it to headquarters.”

That led to a wager between Groen and McDonald’s chief Ray Kroc, who was preparing his own meatless alternative.

“He called his sandwich the Hula Burger,” Groen said. “It was a cold bun and a slice of pineapple and that was it.

“Ray said to me, “Well, Lou, I’m going to put your fish sandwich on (a menu) for a Friday. But I’m going to put my special sandwich on, too. Whichever sells the most, that’s the one we’ll go with.’

“Friday came and the word came out. I won hands down. I sold 350 fish sandwiches that day. Ray never did tell me how his sandwich did.

“My fish sandwich was the first addition ever to McDonald’s original menu,” he said. “It saved my franchise.”

Jesus’ Body Found!!!

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

I was just reading Time Magazine’s Blog and found this article about the possible discovery of the body of Jesus in a tomb in Isreal.

WOW! what an interesting topic! my family is of mixed religions and so they get into huge battles and fueds, often going for years not speaking to each other as a result, over wither one religion is better than another, or which docteric is the “one true” docterin. I well have to pass this article on to them, see what they have to say about it… I could guess, they’ll probl’y all say it’s a hoax…

as for myself, I look at religion as a thing that we use to improve us, and as such I follow no one religion, but tudy all of them… one thing I like to do is to find historic proof… archological finds and such that support or refute various aspects of religon…

WOW! the possible discovery of Jesus’ body! THAT is such a great find… the way I see it it could go one way or the other…

they prove it’s him, and either religion goes crazy, drunk on power, each trying to be the one to “house” his body in their church, so they can charge people tons of money to come see his remains

or. they prove it’s him and religion goes crazy, in their attempt to destroy the body and wipe it’s esistance off the face of the earth so they can continue to milk money out of there members

either way, organized religion stands to make a foutune… I wonder if they well spend their riches on the sick and poor like Jesus was said to have done?

I’ll be interested in seeing if religious leaders really well do what Jesus would have done.

A lot of people over on that blog are fighting and flaming each other, because they are saying that if Jesus body is found than than means the crucifition was “crui-fiction”.

For me, I thought that proof that Jesus was a real person by finding his body was more important than fighting over with it ment he was crucified or not. I mean, that would mean that he was a real person! That is so cool!

I don’t see that as a threat to my faith or as a bad thing, even if it were true… I’m guessing that my personal multi-religon (all Christian faiths) upbringing must have somehow “warped” my view of Christianity, cause I realy don’t see the resurection as the “thing of vital importance” for my faith, so for me disproving the resurection by finding a body, does not effect my faith… I grew up being taught that “as man is god once was; as god is man shall become”, and that it is through following Jesus teachings that that shall happen…

I think I am realizing , reading the repsonces to this article, that most Christian view Christianity very differantly than I do… weird

I’ll be interested in seeing if religious leaders really well do what Jesus would have done. Well they be meek and humble?

A lot of people over on that blog are fighting and flaming each other, because they are saying that if Jesus body is found than than means the crucifition was “crui-fiction”.

that article has only been up a few hours and already there are just under 3000 comments on it, and most of them are people in a rage, because they are saying that he was the son of god so he couldn’t die, and thus there could be no body…

but, if he raised from the dead, as they are also saying, than he must have died in order to come back right? I wonder if they even realize that they are double-talking when they say that?

wow! though, some people over there are really taking this realy hard though!

I was surprised really at how this has upset so many people in such a short time… I thought Christians would be happy that his body was found (possibly), (I’m Christian, and I would love for someone to find his body) but instead they getting all mad and defencive and throwing out accusasions and such… I don’t get it… isn’t being a Christian doing what Christ did and following his teaching? he didn’t teach to fight and argue like that that’s for sure…

oh well… I can’t wait to see how the attempt to prove of disprove this find… I question the DNA bit, I just don’t see how that’ll work

or. they prove it’s him and religion goes crazy, in their attempt to destroy the body and wipe it’s esistance off the face of the earth so they can continue to milk money out of there members

either way, organized religion stands to make a foutune… I wonder if they well spend their riches on the sick and poor like Jesus was said to have done?

Well they be meek and humble?

that article has only been up a few hours and already there are just under 3000 comments on it, and most of them are people in a rage, because they are saying that he was the son of god so he couldn’t die, and thus there could be no body…

but, if he raised from the dead, as they are also saying, than he must have died in order to come back right?

For me, I thought that proof that Jesus was a real person by finding his body was more important than fighting over with it ment he was crucified or not. I mean, that would mean that he was a real person! That is so cool!

I think that what he taught is more important that wither or not he was ressurected. I mean isn’t it?

Jesus’ Body Found!!!

Tuesday, February 27, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I was just read Time Magazine’s Blog and found this article about the possible discovery of the body of Jesus in a tomb in Isreal.

WOW! what an interesting topic! my family is of mixed religions and so they get into huge battles and fueds, often going for years not speaking to each other as a result, over wither one religion is better than another, or which docteric is the “one true” docterin.

Dolls For Websites.

Monday, February 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been looking for some “online dolls” that I could make to match my Twighlight Manor characters. Someone back at NaNoWriMo was doing that for their charaters, and it seemed to me a good idea. Of course I’ve never done this before. I’ve got Sculpy Dolls, and fabric dolls, and paper dolls, that I have made, but I’ve never even considered “online dolls” before.

I just found Dress Up Games, a place that I think does what I am looking for. I haven’t tried it out yet, so I not entirly sure how Dress Up Games works. After I finish writing this, I’m gonna test it out see what I can come up with. If I can come up with characters that look like what I want them to look like I’ll let you know.

Here are the sample images that they show. Pretty good!

This one is so sweet, could be either an angel or a faerie. I love her big beautiful eyes… so very Etiole`, he would love it! This one actually looks a lot like Lady Melneva… I think I well have fun with these. I can see myself becoming addicted and making hundreds of them! LOL!

This one reminds me of the Holiday Barbie that comes out every year, I used to collect those, years ago. I had one that looked just like this only her dress was green, not red.

I like this one the best, it reminds me of Dulce`, only she’s blue not purple. LOL!

Here are some more dolls; these were not made by me, they are from the archives at The Doll Palace, from their Greek Goddess Collection. These are the ones I like best from their files.

    Accepting Your Writing Style

    Monday, February 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Once again, a post for fellow writers, kind of, something to think about, next time you set out to writing:

Do you accept your writing style? Many writers do not. If fact, it is far too common a thing for a writer to strive to write like someone else. Do you love Poe? Are you frustrated when you strain yourself for hours trying to write just like Poe did, only to find yourself sounding more like Dr. Seuss? Do you respond by throwing your piece away and starting again? Why?

    Why what?

Why did you throw your piece away?

Oh, that? Well, it didn’t sound like Poe.

    Are you Poe?

    No, but…

Yes, that‘s right: No buts allowed. You are not Poe. You never well be Poe.

But I love Poe, his stories are so…

Yes, I know! I love Poe too. His stories are wonderful. But Poe is dead. And he is not you. You are not he. You are you. No one else can be you but you. You are the only you the world well ever see. Poe was the only Poe there ever was. There well never be another Poe. There well be millions who strive to be Poe, but they well all fail, because no one but Poe can really be Poe. The sooner you accept that only Poe was Poe and only you are you, the quicker you well move past all this and become the writer you were truly ment to be: you.

    But…

Uh! I said no buts! You are not Poe. You are YOU. There is no one else who can be you. You are special. There is no one else like you. YOU are the only one like you. Others may even try to be like you, but only you can be you. Poe cannot be you. You cannot be Poe. Poe was the only person who could write the poems and stories hidden deep within the heart and soul of Poe. Only YOU can create the stories and poems hidden deep within you. Accept yourself for who you are.

    But, Poe…

Did Poe try to be like you?

No of course not! Poe was Poe. He didn’t try to be like anyone. He was a unique individual. He didn’t try to be like no one. He was just himself… he…

Ah! Did you hear what you just said? Poe was himself. He didn’t try to be like you. He didn’t try to be like Tennyson. He didn’t try to be like Shakespeare. He didn’t try to be like anyone. Poe was himself. Poe was different, Poe was unique. Poe has his own style. HIS OWN STYLE. Not a style he copied off someone else, but a style he created. That is why Poe stood out. That is why you like him. Because he did his own thing. Because he never did what other people did. Because he developed his own style and ran with it, instead of trying to copy someone else, gosh darn the consequences.

The lesson here? Be yourself. Don’t try to copy others, it never works, you can never be anyone other than who you were born to be. Develop your own style. People well love you for it. Someday, you well be a classic, and a hundred years from now, your stories well be on the shelf along side your heroes, and people well be striving to copy you and your style. Accept yourself for who you are and you shall truly shine like the bright star you really are.

What is your writing’s biggest flaw? • No Comments (Edit)
This is sort of a self-searching exercise for all you fellow writers out there. The topic of which is the question: What is your writings biggest flaw?

The question is inspired by the fact, that all to often, we as writers look at our work as absolutely perfect. You know you do. Admit it. You do it, I do it, we all do it. It a flaw that all writers have and none can escape. We think that everything we write is perfect. We think that everyone well love it. Our kind, often goes so far as to think that it is so perfect that we don’t need to edit it past the first draft. We write the first draft and say: “Ah huh! This is perfect!”

We are a strange breed, driven to write, yet compleded to igrore the act of editing what we write. We well sit at the computer for hours, days, weeks, even month, typing out our heart and soul. Than without editing it we send it off, and quickly get a rejection slip. We become degected, paranoid, hurt, angery. What went wrong here? Well, we as writers, can get so blinded by how great we think our story is, that we forget to look for any flaws in it. I think this is prob’ly the most common mistake made by ever single writer to ever exist.

So, my exercise today is, to take something you have written, recently or in the far past, a one page poem or a three hundred page novel, fiction or non-fiction. It doesn’t matter what it is or when you wrote it, just take it and look at it. Really look at it. Look at it as though you were the toughest editor the world has ever known. Look for flaws in it. Take a red pen and cross out everything that shouldn’t be there: everything, from extra adjectives and adverbs, to the compound sentence that should have been two separate sentences, the prepositions that aren’t really needed… anything. Kill the passive voice. Correct spelling errors. Get rid of characters that do not add to the story. Cross out the don’ts and replace them with do nots instead. Cut scenes that are not one hundred percent nessacery. When you are done, your script will be bleeding red ink, but don’t do not worry about that. Take a careful look at the things you have crossed out. Why did you cross them out? How could you have written them better? Did you notice that you are crossing out the same mistake again and again? Chances are, you well find two or three mistakes that have been repeated throughout your writing. Take note of these. They are the areas on which you well need to work the hardest to correct.

I could continue, by telling you how to correct each flaw, but I well not, because that is not the point pf this article. The point of this article is to find the flaws, not correct them. You can correct them later, but you can’t correct them if yo have not looked for them. You want to improve your writing skills, but you can not improve something that is perfect can you? So the first thing you must do, is to realize that your writing is not perfect, no ones is. All writing has its good points. All writing has its bad points. Every writer has talent. Every writer has flaws. Your goal here is to look for the bad, and make it good. Once you can see the flaws, than you can correct them. In the end, your writing well be all the better for it. Besides, the better your writing is, the better your pay well be too.
