Top 100 Books? Really? Never heard of them!

Sunday, April 15, 2007 · 4 Comments

Top 100 books of the past 25 years:

wow! I just took a look at the list and found it interesting to note that not only had I never read any of the books on the list, but of the 100 books listed I had only ever heard of one of them (The Da Vici Code)

I almost thought I’d read one of them, but than I realized that the one I read was “The Labyrinth” by A.G.H.Smith, not “Labyrinth” by Kate Mosse.

Man! the way I read books, I’m amazed that I hadn’t read any of the ones on the list! I must have differant tastes. oh well.

    Hi EK
At a quick count I’ve read 26 of those books, and in total have heard of probably half of them.
Are you sure you’ve never heard of Harry Potter? Silence of the Lambs?
FWIW there are a few of my all time favourites on that list.
Some of the books are by English writers. From memory you are based in the US so maybe some of them don’t get much of a run in the media over there. ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” is a fantastic read for all ages, also I really enjoy anything by Bill Bryson and Nick Hornby. Probably a thrid of the books on the list have been made into movies too.

    Thanks for an interesting post

are you sure you and I read the same list? neither Harry Potter nor Silence of the Lambs are listed on that guys top 100 books. (you don’t have to search far on my blog to know that I’m a rabid fan of Prof Snape, btw).

Well, I only read three on the list … actually…only two and one half (part way through the Cormac McCarthy book ‘All the Pretty Horses’).

I wonder what made those particular 100 so special??

    well, I’ll be…

I just went back and re-read the list, and you know what? they changed the books that were on it! either that or they changed the link address, cause now the title is differant too, it no longer says “top 100 books from past 25 years”. The list that is up now has a few books I’ve heard of and a couple I’d read, and yep, now Harry Potter IS on the list!

I wonder how often they update that list… I’ll have to keep checking back to see how often it changes
