Entries from June 2007

After the 1964 Dodge 300 4-door sedan, which is my fave car; my other fave car is the Peugeot 505 (all years, all models). I first saw one in 1983. A white Peugeot 505 with red interior, it was love at first sight, and remained a car I dreamed of having.
Of course as many of you know, I have a passion for black cars with red interior, regarless of the type of car. And than there is my obsession with metal-flaked cars.
Here in the USA, the Peugeot 505 came in 3 models:
the 4 door sedan
the station wagon
the 8 passange, third seat station wagon
All three in a 4 cyl or a 6 cyl gas or desil option.
In France, they also came in a pick-up truck model, a hearse model, and there was an aditional option of a V-8 engine. These came in left-hand or right-hand drive depending on the contry that they were shipped to. In the USA, we only saw the left-hand drive versions.
Well, this goal is two fold:
My short term goal is just to get a Peugeot 505, any year, any model, just so I can saw I’ve got one. Ideally, it would be a black one with red or black interior from 1983 – 1985. Which I would than pimp out to be a Raspberry Black metal flake with red shag interior.
My long term goal is to eventually have one of each of every possible model ever made. I’m esp. on the look out for the 2 rarest models they ever made: The hearse and the pick-up camper. Both were custom orders built by request, and not made as regular production. Only a handful of these super-rare models were ever made.
Saddly ALL Peugeot 505 are quite hard to find in the USA, as are ALL Peugeots, period. The 505 was the last model shipped to the USA. Though they were very popular in the 1980’s, in 1989 new US laws, pretty much banned them from road use in almost all of the 50 states, instantly causeing this lovly little car to dissapear from USA roads almost overnight, while shutting down every single dealer. Today, there are no car dealers in the USA that well sell you a Peugeot, and you must order them “special built to meet US laws” directly from the factory in France or New Zealand.
And so, there you have it. My goal of owning my dream car… as many of them as I can get my hands on.

According to Answers.com:
Spotlight: Platform 9 ¾, the Sorting Hat and quidditch were introduced to the world 10 years ago this week, with the first publishing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The Manichaean bildungsroman, which was later translated into American English, launched a billion-dollar empire. The final book will be published on July 21 and promises to answer questions such as “Will ‘The Boy Who Lived’ die?,” “Is Snape good?” and “What is a Deathly Hallow?” The fifth movie will be released 2 weeks earlier. The amusement park doesn’t open until at least 2009.

I used to read an average of 3 books a week. Over the years though, I’ve slowly gotten away from it. Last year I think I read 3 books in the entire year. With my love for books, I find that appauling, and so started this goal (and others) in order to turn my reading habit around and back to the way it was years ago.
In order to do this, I signed up for 2 differant book reading goals on 43Things. The first was 52 books in 52 weeks. Though I’ve done it before and then some, in the past, I wasn’t quite sure I could do today, because it had been so long since I’ve read that many books in one year. I know for a fact just how much time this requires me to devote to nothing but reading, and I wasn’t sure if I could do that. But I knew I’d make 10 books in 2007, so I signed up for that one as well. I’ve hit 14 books in 2007, so that goal is now crossed off and I’m working on the 52 books in 52 weeks.
I can cross off this goal as well now. I certainly am reading more. Not at the rate I was in the long past, but better than in recent years, at least. I’m going to keep this one as an ongoing goal, but now it’s no longer on my main list.

Today (June 20, 2007) is this the 2nd anniversary of The Padded Cell #2. I remember being here when the original Padded Cell started February 16, 2005. I remember it being Feb 16, 2005, because that was the day I found the [], and was graced wih my first ever pink-slap! I remember being one of the very first posters on the Padded Cell, I think I showed up on page 2 of it. It was what kept me coming back to eBay and the []. Without it I don’t think I would have come back to the [], because there was a wierd flame war going on than, and the [] just seemed so crazy at the time. But than Flowers started the Padded Cell and it was like a safe haven from the rest of the insanity going on in the [] at that time, so I just kept coming back and coming back… and wow! I can’t belive it’s been so long already! The original Padded Cell was short lived and closed down on June 16, 2005. It’s last post was made by Dreams and was post number 27834, making it officailly eBay’s longest thread at the time. (Most threads close down after a dozen or so replies, and only a rare few make it past 100.) The ledganday Padded Cell, was the first thread on eBay to hit 10,000, and than the first to hit 20,000.
Padded Cell #2 was started by eBay’s Meme, in tribute to The Padded Cell. Us manic posters, known to other eBayers as “The Cellmates”, quickly made sure that it continued in popularity, and as of today it stands at 37735 posts. Now not only has The Padded Cell gone on to be eBay’s most popular forum, but it is now the longest lived as well. In an online chatroom arena where the average thread life is 12 hour, today The Padded Cell #2 celebrates it’s 2nd year!
Total posts on the Padded Cell (1 & 2) now total 65,569 and counting!
Long live the Padded Cell! May it always have a place here on the [].

Scrooge McDuck being one of The Padded Cell’s roving icons, it seems only approprait that he be the one to wish it a very Happy 2nd Birthday!

Happy La Kermeese!
I’m watching them set up for the block party right now. We got front row seats to the concert and fireworks and we don’t even have to leave to house! Can’t get out the front door right now, cause there’s a Slush Puppy machine and a hot dog stand in the sidewalk. The radio stations are setting up in front of my bedroom window. Such exicentment going on. I love it.
Wondering: Are any of you guys going to be here tonight?

For Those who don’t know, it’s a French festival celebrated in Maine. It celebrates the peace between Maine and Quebec and the mixed heritage of everyone that lives in the area. It’s headquarters are in Biddeford Maine, which is a predominaty French town, and they close off all of Main Street and the off streets and turn the entire city into a giant carnival.
It looks like the entire population of Quebec is here right now, you should see the traffic!
A green frog is the symbol of the festival, and everyone has got frogs on their shirts and frog hats, and kids are winning stuffed frog prizes at the game stands.

This is our first year living in Biddeford (we used to live in Old Orchard Beach on the other side of the river), so we’ve never gotting to see it like this before. We’ve only seen it after it was open. It opens in a half hour, but they started setting up last night, so we’ve been watching the whole thing.
They have fireworks off the bridg at 9. We are in the first house off the bridge, overlooking the river, so the fireworks are going to be shot off just a few feet from my window. That ought to be interesting.

EDIT:
They just started. Right now they are singing the National Anthem of the US, they’ll do the Canadian one next, and the one for Quebec. Everything the announcer says gets said twice, once in Engligh nd than again in French.
EDIT:
Only in Biddeford! There’s a guy with a “trash pick up claw” going around picking up the trash that is grewing steadily on the streets. An elderly man with a cane just came walking by, waked the trash-picker-upper with the cane, and now the two men are duelinging, with cane and trash-pick-up-thing, like it was a sword fight.
EDIT:
I’m back again. Had to go out and watch what was going on out there. The fireworks just ended. Oh it was just amazing! The La Kermeese fireworks are the largest fireworks display in Maine… 4th of July has nothing on La Kermeese. The fireworks are so big andthey shoot them up so high that they can be seen over most of Southern York county. So we always see them no matter where we happen to be when they go off each year. But this year we are living in the first house off the bridge, right on the river’s edge, so this year we got to see them up close. And boy did we see them up close! OMG! I’ve never seen fireworks so close before. They were shooting them off about 50 feet from our front door. I went out on the front porch to watch them. OMG! It sounded like there was a canoon in my brain! That thing they shoot fireworks out of is SO LOUD! Even with tens of thousands of people all talking at once and the big band music playing (live band too!) I couldn’t hear them, all I could hear was the firework’s canon-thing.
But seeing it was amazing! OMG! It was like we were right inside of the fireworks! They were going up straight over our heads. I’ve always seen fireworks from a distance, far off, away from the crowd; kind of on a hill “looking down” at the fireworks. But this time I was right underneath them!!!! Boy is that ever a change of perspective! Watching them fan out from underneath, was just undescribably amazing! I wish you guys could have seen it! I’ve never seen anything like that before!
Well, it’s all done down, so I cam back in. The fireworks lasted a full half-hour, and ended with a big “atomic bomb” looking mushroom display that just kept going up higher and higher. It was beautiful! Now the band’s playing again. It sounds like an old 1800’s ciruse out there, they are playing the old carousel/carvial type music. Like what you hear on a merry-go-round, only it’s being played live by a real band… and boy is it loud!
I love La Kermeese.

Today (June 20, 2007) is this the 2nd anniversary of The Padded Cell #2. I remember being here when the original Padded Cell started, and I thought is was February 16, 2005.

Scrooge McDuck being one of The Padded Cell’s roving icons, it seems only approprait that he be the one to wish it a very Happy 2nd Birthday!

I have a desk again! Yippie! And a chair too. It seems like ages since I’ve had a desk to sit down at. Forget the fire, my desk didn’t survive the flood. I’ve been without a desk for much much longer than we’d been homeless.
I am sitting at the desk right now. It feels so good. I can write without my back hurting again. It is so good to not have to sit on the floor to do my writing anymore. I had forgotten how good it feels to write and not have my back hurt when I get done. I had almost forgotten how good it was to have furniture.
It’s a nice desk. One of those white and black artists` drafting desks, with the tilting adjustable top. Can you believe it? Someone actually threw this thing out! Well, I’m so glad they did, cause otherwise I wouldn’t be sitting at it writing right now. Granted the shelves are missing and the white vinyl top has been peeled off, and it’s top’s been spray painted so to make it white again, but still, it’s a good sturdy desk and it’s useable no matter what it looks like. I’m glad we found it before the trash men came to pick up the rubbish.
The chair isn’t as good. The back is missing, so you have to use it like a stool, and the legs are all loose and wiggly, but it’s still usable, and it matches the desk. It’ll do for now.
Now I’ve got 2 yellow leather side chairs, one orange recliner chair, and orange 3-legged coffee table, a white desk, and a black desk chair. Not much, but it’s a start at having some furniture again. And I found every single one of them by sifting through dumpsters and trash bins. I can’t believe people are so wasteful an actually throw these things out! I’m hoping to find a mattress of some sort, like maybe a couple of sofa cushions or some such thing, that I could sleep on, cause the floors are so hard to sleep on. Sleeping on the ground, when living in the tarp-tent-thing that I used to live in, was much softer, and much more comfortable. The dirt kind of shifts around to fit your body, but the floor of the apartment is just so hard and stiff and uncomfortable to sleep on. I liked sleeping under the tarp better, cause the ground is more comfortable than this floor is. I kind of miss being outdoors, having walls around you is almost like being in a cage. I’ve tried sleeping in the recliner a couple of times, but I just can’t sleep sitting up. (The recliner don’t work, it just kind of rocks a little instead.)
I’m so glad to have this desk though. It’ll make my writing so much easier now. I’ll be able to write each and every day again, and write longer too. Trying to write on the floor is just murder on my back, which is why I’ve had such a hard time hitting my writing goal. It’s hard to write when you back starts hurting soon after you start writing. Since the flood/fire, nothing in our lives has been the same, including my writing. I used to write every single day, never missing a day, now I’m lucky if I get to write even one day a week. This desk is so going to change that. I’ll be able to write without my back hurting, so I’ll be able to write longer and more often.
