My Drafting/Editing Process

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

My first draft is just me writing like crazy until I get to the point that I say: It’s done!

My second draft is when I have my word processor spell-check and grammar check, which gets out most, though not all of those mistakes in about a half an hour.

Than I put it aside of a week or a month or even 3 months, and start writing my next book.

For my third draft, I open up the file and sit down and read the whole thing straight through. While I’m reading, I am making changes, checking facts, deleting irrelevant things, adding stuff I’d forgotten to put in, etc.

For my fourth draft, I print the whole thing, up with 1″ margins on all sides, and double spaces. This is when the “real” editing begins, as I sit down with a red Sharpie in hand and start making changes, deleting whole paragraphs, rearranging stuff in different orders, correcting all the spelling and grammar errors that the spell checker missed (like no/know or were/where or there/their). I also check for passive voice and make changes to correct it. I end up with papers all over the room, all bleeding in red ink. This can take 3 or 6 or more months.

For my fifth (and usually last) draft, I take the stake of red marked papers, and than make all of those changes on the word processor file. The last thing I do, is to run it through the spell checker once again, just in case of any types.

The whole thing takes from 3 to 8 months.

Should You Self Publish Your Book?

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Only you can answer that question. There are hundreds of reasons to self publish your book. Likewise there are hundreds of reasons NOT to self publish your book.

I self publish, and people always are asking me if I recommend it to others, and you know what? They get shocked when I don’t! Why? Well, for me, self publishing works, because I write in a very tiny niche, for which there is almost zero interest and is next to impossible to find a publisher for, simply because my niche is “not marketable enough”. I write chap-books (too long for a short story, too short to be a novel), short story anthologies, plays, and niched non-fiction. So, for me it works because the sales market is so small, that I’m able to personally market to pretty much every one interested in the niche. It is pointless for me to even attempt to traditionally publish my stuff, because there simply is not enough demand to warrant it being mass produced.

However, if I was going to write something that would cover a wide audience, I’d send it out to traditional publishers, because they are better equipped to reach the mass market.

Of course the other thing is, I don’t as a general rule write novels either. There is a huge world of difference from self-pubbing and small niche non-fiction book, and a mass market fiction novel. Self-pubbing fiction is very hard to do and not recommended (by me) to anyone seeking a wide readership.

As a general rule, self publish only if you are writing one of the following:

    a short story anthology
    a book of poems
    a technically journal (which will only be read by a 100 or so college professors)
    a non-fiction niche market (alien abductions interviews; sky-diving how tos; etc.)
    a local history book or local travel guide
    a play
    a memoir
    a church/business/family cookbook

The reason for sticking only with these types of books, is because these are not going to sell many copies to begin with, thus traditional publishers won’t bother wasting their time on them. They’ll sell 10 to 100 copies per year at best, even with a traditional publisher’s best marketing team promoting it, and because of this, they are best suited to small press or self publishing instead.

So, if your book does not fall into one of those categories, than avoid self publishing it.

I do recommend, however, that you self publish a book, before you go on to anything else. It doesn’t have to be anything much, maybe just a 30 page book of poems that only hand out to your cousins at the next family reunion, and try to sell a few copies of off of your MySpace page. The reason I recommend this, is, because it gives you a first hand “feel” of the actual publishing process and will help you to better understand the inner workings of what a publisher does to get your book, typeset, printed, and marketed. (Don’t “test run” your book you plan to traditionally publish, however, because once you’ve self published it, traditional publishing houses won’t republish it. It is very hard to convince them that they should REPRINT your book, if you didn’t sell thousands of copies within the first few weeks of it’s self published run!) Think of this “first book” as a test run learning exercise, and not as a book that will make you rich and famous.

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Best Selling Product on Amazon????

Monday, February 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

You know how every body tells you to make money online by getting affiliate accounts and than promoting “the best selling items”? Well, I was on Amazon today looking for a book about faeries, when I noticed on the homepage, a big banner showcasing today’s #1 top selling item on Amazon. Okay, it’s Amazon, so you’d expect it to be a book right? or a CD or DVD? Nope. Sunglasses. In the dead of winter. Sunglasses. These sunglasses to be exact:

Now I ask you, does that look to you like an item that would be the best selling item of the day? That means Amazon sold more pairs of these sunglasses than any other item sold today. Really? Sunglasses? WOW! I wonder how many of them had to be sold to make it to today’s #1 best selling item? They didn’t say. Amazon should have a graph showing how many of them were sold, before they became the #1 selling product of the day. Don’t you think so?

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Weird threatening email from Zazzle shop owner

Thursday, February 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

Is anyone else getting an email “demanding” to know why they were deleted from your fan club?

I just got an email from another Zazzle gallery owner, saying that they tried to join my fan club, but that I had deleted them from the my list. They than went on and wanted to know why I have yet to join their fan club. They than demanded to know why I have not added a link to their gallery on my gallery. HUH? Why would I do that?? Than they started getting angry and threatening sounding and went on about how we should be focusing on art not politics and accused me of deleting them from my fan club list because they voted for Obama (who I also voted for btw, but what difference does that make? And why would they even say that to begin with? How am I supposed to know who they voted for?).

I’m confused. What is this weird email I got, and what are they talking about? I’ve never heard of this shop owner before, never had them as a fan, never deleted them from my fans (can you even delete fans from your list??? I’ve never heard of that before either!)

The email says it was sent to me via my gallery. Is it spam? Should I reply to him/her? Should I forward it to Zazzle HQ? Is this some sort of mass-email that’s going out to every one on Zazzle? Are other members getting emails like this? Did they send this email to me by mistake, thinking they were sending it to someone else? I don’t know what I’m supposed to do here. This guy sound really angry and I don’t even know who he is or what he’s so mad about.

Thanks

~Wendy

Do you believe Unidentified Flying Objects exist?

Saturday, February 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Do you believe Unidentified Flying Objects exist?

My response to that blog post is this:

1.) yes, there are thousands of witnesses. Some people believe in UFOs and alien abductions, because they had a very frightening event happen to them and that’s the only thing they can determine must have happened, because nothing else seemed logical.
.
odd thing though, is that alien abductions are only remembered through hypnosis, while alien contacts (not abductions) and UFO sightings are always remembered without hypnosis. It is for this reason that I tend to believe contactees’ & sightees’ stories over abductees’ stories.
.
do I believe in alien abductions? yes; Do I believe EVERY alien abduction case? No, there are too many people saying the exact same thing (often word for word as though reading a script); when I hear someone saying the exact same thing another person said, I have to ask myself: how is it that they are quoting the other person word for word? If 100 people are all saying the exact same thing, than 99 of those people are not thinking. In other words, while I do believe some of them, I don’t believe very many of them.
.
2) you do know that there are many “official” reports from government and military workers and scientists, from all around the world, which state that not only are aliens real, but they are here on Earth? you can find more info (links to more than 40 official press releases) here: http://eknano.blogspot.com/2009/02/ufo-discloser-project.html
.
3) Of the thousands of sightings, 97% of all UFO sightings are proven to be government testing; there is still that 3% though that no one can explain
.
A sighting is the same thing as being a witness. You can not bear witness to something that you did not see. If someone says they saw a starship, who are you to say to them: “You did not see what you thought you saw because you really saw what I think you saw and what I think you saw is not what you said you saw.”
.
If someone says they saw a mermaid, than they saw a mermaid not a sea cow. If someone says they saw a space craft who are we to tell them they saw anything else?
.
4) Did you know that in the 1920’s (and in some cases right up into the 1940’s) Gorillas, Golden Pheasants, and Purple Peacocks were said by “creditable” scientists to be nothing more than hoaxes because there was “no evidence” or “proof” that they were real? Likewise, right up until the 1960’s many scientists believed dinosaur bones to be an elaborate hoax, in spite of the fact their was proof (the bones themselves) that dinosaurs did exist.
.
Having “proof” is not going to change a person’s mind, because people are going to believe whatever they want to believe, proof or no proof.
.
I do question the general public’s need for evidence. Here is a copy of a question asked of me, and my answer to it:
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…
.
Q. If asked, would you provide any hard evidence of Etiole’s existence?
.
EelKat: No. I have no reason to. Twenty years ago, maybe, yeah, but not today, not with his health the way it is. Etiole is real. I know Etiole is real. Wither or not any one believes me stopped being important the day my Bishop tried to have me straight jacketed and sent for men from Pine Land Center to have me locked up. That happened when I was still a kid. I learned than, how dangerous adults could be when faced with the claims that aliens were real. I learned that day that even the most trusted of adults were not worthy of my trust. I haven’t talked about my conversations with Etiole to another Human since that day. This interview is the first time I’ve spoken to anyone about Etiole since I was 16 years old.
.
Besides, what type of evidence would people want? A piece of his cloths? What good would that do? He’s been living on our planet for the last 300 years with zero contact with his own people, anything his cloths are made out of today, is more likely than not, to have originated on Earth. A piece of his hair? HA! The guy wears a wig, it’s made out of yak hair or something like that. It looks like his natural hair, but he has very little of that left. Skin grafts? Yeah right, like I’m going to stab the guy.
.
And than, what if I did give them something, which proved Etiole was real, than what? Scientists are going to want to take him and lock him up some place, where they will subject him to one test after another. He’s already been through that before, he doesn’t need to go through something like that again. By handing over evidence of his existence all I would be doing is endangering his life. Why would I do that? He is my friend, what possible reason would I have for betraying him and letting him fall into the hands of evil men who would harm him?
.
The fact is, people have tried and tested my patience for the last 30 years, and I’m sick and tired or it. Humans don’t want evidence of his existence so that they can welcome him as a part of our society. I learned that the hard way. It’s not Human nature to welcome strangers into their home, so why should I expect them to welcome a stranger into their planet? They only want evidence so they can run tests on him, experiment on him, and eventually kill him so they can dissect him. Why would I do that to someone I loved? Do you honestly think that I would help them?
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…
.
And today, that’s how I answer everyone asking for evidence. The problem is, after having people break into my home, destroy my property, set fire to my house, and kill my pets, I have learned the hard way that people who ask for evidence don’t really want evidence, they just want one more reason to bully you, because when you give them evidence they still don’t believe you.

BTW, I’m an alien contactee, and have written quite a bit about the subject.

Do you believe Unidentified Flying Objects exist?

Here is a copy of a question asked of me, and my answer to it:
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…
.
Q. If asked, would you provide any hard evidence of Etiole’s existence?
.
EelKat: No. I have no reason to. Twenty years ago, maybe, yeah, but not today, not with his health the way it is. Etiole is real. I know Etiole is real. Wither or not any one believes me stopped being important the day my Bishop tried to have me straight jacketed and sent for men from Pine Land Center to have me locked up. That happened when I was still a kid. I learned than, how dangerous adults could be when faced with the claims that aliens were real. I learned that day that even the most trusted of adults were not worthy of my trust. I haven’t talked about my conversations with Etiole to another Human since that day. This interview is the first time I’ve spoken to anyone about Etiole since I was 16 years old.
.
Besides, what type of evidence would people want? A piece of his cloths? What good would that do? He’s been living on our planet for the last 300 years with zero contact with his own people, anything his cloths are made out of today, is more likely than not, to have originated on Earth. A piece of his hair? HA! The guy wears a wig, it’s made out of yak hair or something like that. It looks like his natural hair, but he has very little of that left. Skin grafts? Yeah right, like I’m going to stab the guy.
.
And than, what if I did give them something, which proved Etiole was real, than what? Scientists are going to want to take him and lock him up some place, where they will subject him to one test after another. He’s already been through that before, he doesn’t need to go through something like that again. By handing over evidence of his existence all I would be doing is endangering his life. Why would I do that? He is my friend, what possible reason would I have for betraying him and letting him fall into the hands of evil men who would harm him?
.
The fact is, people have tried and tested my patience for the last 30 years, and I’m sick and tired or it. Humans don’t want evidence of his existence so that they can welcome him as a part of our society. I learned that the hard way. It’s not Human nature to welcome strangers into their home, so why should I expect them to welcome a stranger into their planet? They only want evidence so they can run tests on him, experiment on him, and eventually kill him so they can dissect him. Why would I do that to someone I loved? Do you honestly think that I would help them?
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…

Changed My Blog Layout (Again!)

Saturday, February 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Well, I got sick of seeing the green themed layout all the time, sure it was nice and woodsy and great as my late summer trees going from green to brown, but it’s almost spring now and I just got my new fish, and thinking of maybe naming one of them Xavier, and than realized, I needed to bring back my “Xavier theme”. Haven’t used this one on this blog before, but it’s based on an old CosPlay I did about 20 years ago, back when I was writing the “Xavier stories” of the Twighlight Manor series and I went and dyed my hair to look like Xavier Logan’s and than made his famous yellow and pink suit. (Ohhhh did that get stares! LOL! My freakiest outfit EVER! LOL! LOL! LOL!) Well, me still loving Xavier Logan and naming all of my pets after him, ever though I haven;t written an Xavier Logan story since 1987, I figured I’d make an Xavier theme for my blog… namely, turn it yellow and pink just like his wild suit. And well, here it is!

not shy? I HATE Dictators

Saturday, February 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Wendy is resisting the temptation to rage and vent on the FaceBook wall of someone who left my brother a nasty comment X-(. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the people from the church I used to go to . . . they won’t leave us alone, not even on FaceBook even! Why do I hate them? Oh, I don’t know, maybe because they are the ones who did this to us: http://www.Squidoo.com/OnBeingHomeless2

The answer that I did not post on their wall was this:

I seem to recall a famous dictator who forced people to volunteer against their will. His name was Hitler.
.
Having free will has nothing to do with being shy, it has everything to do with using the freedom God gave you and not allowing yourself to be pushed around by people who think they have the right to take away your freedom because they feel they have “authority”.
.
I seem to recall having our car being paint-balled by people who claimed it was “God’s will”. I also recall being told I was possessed by a demon, again, by those who said “God had told them so”. Remember my Liberace records I used to have? They were smashed by people who again, said they were doing “God’s work”.
.
Why did these people I used to call my friends do this? Because I have dyslexia, and I CAN NOT read out loud, and what started out as me being teased in class and being told I was shy for not reading Scriptures, snowballed into a riot, with them taking “God’s will” into their own hands. Dictators never do God’s will, no matter how many times they say they are.

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Is there extraterrestrial intelligence life out there some where? & Will we find extraterrestrial life, or will it find us?

Friday, February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

Is there extraterrestrial intelligence life out there some where?

There is no doubt of there being intelligent extraterrestrial life out there some where because it has already found us here on the Earth:
http://www.squidoo.com/amphibious-aliens & http://www.squidoo.com/VISION-D8
.
The fact that there is life our there which is more intelligent than Humans, means that Humans are not #1 on the food chain, and most Humans have a hard time dealing with that kind of information. Humans want to believe that they are the biggest and bestest at everything, and when someone else comes along and knocks them off their high horses and say we can do this or that better than you Humans can, well, they just can’t handle it and go into denial over it.
.
There is intelligent extraterrestrial life out there, the problem is that 90% of the Human race is just too stupid, too ignorant, too arrogant, or just plain too scared to admit it, let alone believe it yet. In order for them to admit it, they would have to first admit that the Human race isn’t #1 in the universe, and that seems to be the major factor resulting in non-belief, doubt, and denial.
.
My question is this: if they don’t believe that there is intelligent extraterrestrial life out there, than why are they afraid of it?

Will we find extraterrestrial life, or will it find us?

Like I said: They have already found us: http://www.squidoo.com/amphibious-aliens &http://www.squidoo.com/VISION-D8 90% of the Human race is just too stupid, too ignorant, too arrogant, or too scared to admit/believe it yet.

Does any Government in the world have a plan to cope with alien invasion?

Does any Government in the world have a plan to cope with alien invasion?

I have not heard of one that did; however, I think it likely that the USA, Russia, and France all have some sort of plan. I don’t think they would be very likely to publicly announce any plans though, partly due to fear of causing panic and partly due to the plan not being fully accurate due to not having a full knowledge of what they are actually up against.
.
Even if one or two governments were aware that aliens were rel, they’d only know about them from one or two aliens they had captured (possibly even dead), and to base an entire war strategy on communication with just one or two people would be a guessing game at best.
.
I do think there is some sort of “plan” in writing, but that it is only a plan in theory, and that because they would have no way to test it, they would not know for certain that it would actually work, they can only hope that they had guessed correctly.

How do you think the world would cope if all the countries had to unify in the face of alien invasion?

Friday, February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

How do you think the world would cope if all the countries had to unify in the face of alien invasion?

I don’t think the countries are capable of unifying. I think if they tried, we would see World War III start, because there would be too many disagreements on who should be doing what and when. Several countries would want to be the one to give the orders and none of them would want to take orders from any of the others. They would start out to fight a common enemy but than they would end up fighting each other, and than they’d all be killed off by the aliens, because they would be so busy arguing about what to do that they’ll wait too long to actually do anything.

Some of you may have already seen this, but if you haven’t than you’ll want to watch these, it’s a press release with interviews with different men from the government (pentagon, air traffic control, CIA, Air Force intelligence officers, etc also school teachers, news reporters and others) ;

This is the original interview taken in 2001; it’s 4 hours long and divided into 14 parts: (actually it’s longer, but only 4 hours of it is available on YouTube). The first 3 minutes of Part 1 is mostly introductory stuff, so you can pretty much skip the first part of Part 1 and go right into the interviews.

Here is the “follow up” interview taken in 2007, this one was held in Washington DC, same Press Release group, different groups of people interviewed, this group includes scientists & military men from Europe, Chile, & Asia

What would life be like if I was never born?

What would life be like if I was never born?

It would be very different. Have you ever seen the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”? If not, go out a rent it. It’s about an “insignificant” man living during the Great Depression. As a young boy he has big dreams of seeing the world and becoming rich and famous. Than his dad dies, so he “does the right thing” and stays home to take care of his mom and run the family business, and lets his younger brother go off traveling to see the world instead. His younger brother joins the war effort and become a famous war hero who changed the course of history. He sees his brother doing all the things he dreamed of doing, and gets depressed.
.
Than the Great Depression hits and he loses what little money he has, and he watches his friends from school go off and become famous and wealthy, while he can barely support his wife and 5 kids. He gets more depressed.
.
Next he takes out this huge loan to try to set things straight, but his best friend (and town drunk) loses the money, and in order to save his friend from going to prison for stealing the money, he takes the blame himself. Suddenly he looks at everything that happened in his life and he realizes that he’s had a terrible life and it’s just getting worse every day, and now he’s about to go to prison and lose everything, so he decides suicide is the only way out, but just as he’s getting ready to kill himself an old man falls off the bridge into the icy river and he forgets his resolve to kill himself in order to save the old man.
.
Next thing he knows, he and the old man are talking and he’s telling the old man every thing that has gone wrong and how he’s had a terrible life and everyone would be better off if he had never been born. He says “I wish I had never been born.” and the old man, says “Okay, you were never born. I’m an angel and I’m granting your wish.”
.
He laughs at the old man and goes home to find that the house he lived in has fallen down years ago; his children were never born, his wife is an old maid, his school friend who had become rich and famous were all bums and thugs and in and out of prison, the war ended very differently because his brother never became a war hero, everything was changed.
.
Than the angel told him: when your brother was a kid he feel through the ice and drowned because “you had never been born, so that day on the lake, you didn’t stop him from going out on the ice, he never grew up to be the war hero. Without you we never would have won the war.”
.
Next the angel says: “Your friends from school had been inspired by your hopes and dreams, to seek out their own. You had never been born, so now they never achieved their own dreams, because they needed you.”
.
The angel goes on like this about each person this man had meet in his life and tells how great an impact every word and every action in his life had on those around him. He ends by showing him his wife and telling how she never found love in her life because no one understood her the way he had, but now because he had never been born, she had never known love and never had the children. Because he had never been born, his children were never born, and their children would never be born, and everything in the entire world had been changed because this one small insignificant man, really did have great importance, even if he never became rich or famous. The angel ends by saying: “See George, you really did have a wonderful life.”

.
Well, that’s the same thing with you. Everything you have ever said and done in your entire life has had a profound effect on every one around you, so if you had never been born, life everywhere would be very different.

Is there extraterrestrial intelligence life out there some where? & Will we find extraterrestrial life, or will it find us?

Friday, February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Like I said: They have already found us: http://www.squidoo.com/amphibious-aliens & http://www.squidoo.com/VISION-D8 90% of the Human race is just too stupid, too ignorant, too arrogant, or too scared to admit/believe it yet.

Does any Government in the world have a plan to cope with alien invasion?

Friday, February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

How do you think the world would cope if all the countries had to unify in the face of alien invasion?

I don’t think the countries are capable of unifying. I think if they tried, we would see World War III start, because there would be too many disagreements on who should be doing what and when. Several countries would want to be the one to give the orders and none of them would want to take orders from any of the others. They would start out to fight a common enemy but than they would end up fighting each other, and than they’d all be killed off by the aliens, because they would be so busy arguing about what to do that they’ll wait too long to actually do anything.
