ARGH! NaNoWriMo Ate My Brain…and my M&Ms…

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

I get home tonight, and 7PM I grab an unopened 20oz bag of Dark M&Ms and log in here to see what’s happening on the forums.

I eat a couple of M&Ms, and read a thread.

I read another thread and eat a couple of more M&Ms.

I answer a few threads, and stop typing long enough to pop a few M&Ms in my mouth.

Three hours later, about 5 seconds ago…I reach into the bag and…it’s empty. I’m looking at the bag and going, “What the hell? Where’d all the M&Ms go?”

Than it hit’s me…wait a minute…did I just eat an entire bag of M&Ms? I was so absorbed in reading the forum I didn’t even notice I eat an entire pound of chocolate! ARGH! It ain’t even November yet and NaNo already ate my brain!

The first one is about a little white puppy who turns into a dragon when he goes to sleep. It’s actually a two worlds thing that I haven’t completely worked out yet. Bethany threw it at me last NaNo and it’s been festering since then. I’m not sure if it would be young adult or an adult novel. I think the FMC would have to travel between the two worlds after the first chapter or so. Or maybe she’s the same person, but living two lives in two different world. Either way, the puppy/dragon would be the tie between the two worlds.

I absolutely LOVE this one! I can see it being one of those great children’s classics along side Pippi Longstocking, Cricket of Times Square, Bunnicla, My Teacher is an Alien, etc. I tend to do a lot of reading of children’s novels.
But I can see this going very fantasy in a Sara Bella sort of way, where the dragon side lives in a happy world of flower fairies a painted ponies. (granted Sara Bella are very early reader picture books, but still, I love reading those too…it’s official, I never grew up.)
I can also see this going into a sort of Brian Froud/Jim Henson world too, where happy fairy land gets taken over by David Bowie *cough*I mean gorgeous evil over lord goblin king and the girl and her dragon have to defeat the goblin king to save the fairy land in a very Dark Crystal/Labyrinth/Neverending Story sort of way. (Did I mention of love 1980′s kids movies too?)
I really, really, really, really like the puppy/dragon plot best of all.

The second one is a murder mystery that takes place at an amusement park.

My first thought was Old Orchard Beach Beach’s Palace Playland and bodies mysteriously washing up on the beach. Serial killer at large (a town council woman no less), hates Massachusetts tourists and is out to rid the town of their incessantly bad driving. =P (Guess where I live?)
Wow – I should so write this. It’s so me – not your plot – my serial killer in Old Orchard plot – I could go all slasher splatterpunk having people getting squished up in the gears of the ferris wheel, than the wheel break free and roll down Main St, crash through the Pier, decapitate a few more tourists on it way through, and than be lost under the depths of an oncoming hurricane . Attack of the killer ferris wheel :)
Dam, I’m suppose to be helping you with your plot and I’m coming up with a new plot for myself instead.
Your second plot, is the one you would probably enjoy writing most. I know I enjoy writing about places I’ve lived/been/worked, thus why Old Orchard Beach and Palace Playland end up in nearly everything that I write…I know that place – I love that place – it’s like I can’t write a story set anyplace else…actually, I can’t write a story set any place else….but yeah, your connection to Funtown would make that the most idea setting for you to write about and really get into.

in the 1920′s. A young woman threw acid in her husband’s face.

Did she watch Phantom of the Opera the night before?
