How do Christian Witches view Heaven/Hell?

Being raised Mormon, I was never taught the concept of Heaven vs Hell. Instead the Church teaches that there are three degrees of glory and one place called “Outer Darkness”. God lives in the Celestial Kingdom, where Mormons who where married in the Temple go after they die. Jesus lives in the Telestial Kingdom where Mormons who did not marry in the Temple or never married at all go when they die. The Holy Spirit live in the Terrestrial Kingdom where all good people who never became Mormons go when they die. Satan lives in Outer Darkness where all the wicked shall go when they die.

I will now point out that I do not believe in this Mormon concept of Heaven vs Hell. Here is what I do believe:

I believe that the universe is filled with many places (planets?) and that each has many realms of existence, and that we live hundreds of lives, and in each life we are reborn in a different one of the realms. The entire universe is like a giant school and each realm/lifetime is one of the classrooms. A spirit realm exists in between these places, the spirits being our teachers and guides (they having already been students millinia ago). When we die we may come back in a new life as a person, an animal, or a spirit guide, or we may move on to another realm or even to another realm on another planet. There is no going forward (being rewarded) or backward (being punished) such as going to Heaven or Hell, but rather we are sent to the place where we are ready to learn our next lesson. Murderers, rapists, etc, go back to the point where they have to relearn over again things they had already been taught to get here to our Earth; Saints, good people, move on the higher levels of learning or become teachers for the rest of us. Etc, Etc, Etc.

How do Christian Witches view "salvation"?

This question is difficult to answer seing how I grew up Mormon, and according the the Mormon church there is no Heaven, no Hell, and Salvation is not thought of in the same way other churches think of it.

Salvation is not often heard taught in the Mormon church. I only ever heard it mentioned in passing a couple of times. Basically, they taught that the Blood of Jesus is not what saves you, because the Blood of Jesus was what saved people who died BEFORE the Resurrection. According to them, before the Resurrection, people were cast into outer darkness as a result of Adam’s sin, and Jesus died to save them not those who came after the Resurrection. For those born after the Resurrection, we are saved by our works, which means living the teachings of Jesus and doing the things he would have done. The Church leaders get very angry if you mention the words “Salvation” or “Saved”, saying that only the lost (meaning non-Mormons) have need of those kinds of words.

So, for most of my life I had no idea what the concept of Salvation (as known to non-Mormon Christians) was.

It wasn’t until I joined up with the Pentecostals that I heard the use of the word Salvation much. The particular Pentecostal group I had joined up with were Holy Rollers “filled with the spirit”, and pretty much spent their Sundays from 9 Am until midnight, singing, dancing, speaking in tongues, rolling on the floor shouting praises, and over all acting like a bunch of crazed lunatics. At the end of it all, they’ll all run around the church, up and down each aisle, hugging each other and screaming”I’m so glad I’m Saved!” I was fascinated by these people because I had never seen anything like this before. Mormons can not even smile in Church, let alone raise their voice, and they’ll give you dirty looks if you walk faster than a snail’s pace. These people were about as opposite from the Mormons as you could get. It was from them that I learned the concept of Salvation: that Jesus died for everyone’s sins, and that by accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you are saved.

Well, after the Pentecostals, I realized, that though I had spent all of my life in the Mormon Church, I was more of a Pentecostal at heart (though not a Holy Roller!) due to the fact that I had a very strong belief in their concept of Salvation. However, I did disagree on one point: they believed that once you had accepted Jesus, you had a one way ticket to heaven, and no matter what sin you committed from that day forth, it didn’t matter because you were saved. I disagreed with them on that point.

As for what do I personally, as a Christian Witch believe? I believe that accepting Jesus into your life is THE FIRST STEP to Salvation, not the only step, and that you must work at it your entire life, because it’s possible to fall away and sin again, and that’s what repentance is for. I don’t believe you are automatically “saved” just because you say you are, but that your works, your actions, your deeds, and your words are what will determine where you will end up after death.

I view “salvation” not as going to Heaven or escaping Hell, but as a road to guide you to your next realm of existence(or realm of glory as they say in the Mormon church). You go forward or backwards depending of how you lived your life.

I do believe in a concept of degrees of glory, much different than the 3 degrees of glory and 1 outer darkness, as the Mormon church teaches it though.

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Diona and Zetasha. Names you assume to be a planet and a star. Any idea where they are?

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

Note, this is a NaNoWriMo 2008 post -
Due to the resent rise (yet again) of the demon possession and witchcraft accusations and questions from non church members, asking me what the church members talking about, I have decided to write a book about Etiole, who he is, how I met him, why people started calling me a witch, and what these religion crazed nuts did to me as a result of their unfounded fears of Etiole. This blog will contain the first drafts of it. I’ll be posting them over the next month or so. I’m just plain tired of being called a witch, I’m thinking of renaming this blog to make the accusations, just to spite them. Seeing a UFO and meeting an alien-faerie-angel being DOES NOT MAKE ME A WITCH!!!! Well, anyways, here’s my latest addition into this year’s NaNoWriMo contest, I know I’m supposed to be writing a fiction novel, not a non-fiction autobiography, but whatever, I just need these people to stop accusing me of demon possession and witchcraft and the only way I can see to do that is to tell the world why it is they are saying these things about me, so continueing from where I left on in my last NaNoWriMo post, here is todays NaNoWriMo addition:

Diona and Zetasha. Names you assume to be a planet and a star. Any idea where they are?

No idea.
Zetasha, I think is equivalent of our North Star. It seems to be a bright star, which can be seen from their planet, that they used to measure maps, other stars and planets with. It is not in our galaxy. I’m not sure that it can be seen from Earth. Or rather, it’s not in our time, I think would be more correct. Like I said before, it’s almost like Etiole is what the Human race will be thouands of years from now and some how he’s stepped through and come out in our version of his world. His constant warnings about taking care of the wetlands and his constant desperate plea for Humans to do something, ANYTHING, to prevent the extinction of all of the frogs, indicats that he has come from a time on Earth, when there are no frogs, and the total extintion of the frogs has somehow created a massive widespread change in the entire Human race, resulting in us no longer being “Humans” but something totally different. He worries and panics and fretts over the fact that the frogs are dieing out. When I first meet him in the 1970′s, it was differant – he was so happy that we had frogs left and right all over the planet. It’s almost as if he thought we had some how changed history and the frogs did not die out in our dimension the way they had in his, but than in the late 1980′s all the local frogs vanished practically over night and local scientist can’t figure out why, and now Ettiole is just in a constant panic over it . . . it’s like, he’s seen this happen before and he’s terrified that our Earth will become his Earth.
Anyways, I got off track there. I think Zetasha is a very bright light – a really, really bright light, like it is a solar system or a planet or a star or something really big that blew up and changed the night sky so that there’s always this really big bright light. It’s almost as if he’s describing The North Star, only after it has blown up and turned into this really big white light across the sky.
Diona. That’s a different matter entirely. He says his home is “far away”, but compared to Diona, we are neighbors. He describes Diona as “on the other side of the universe, as far away from here as you can get”. Of course, he describes Earth as his “home” as well. I think by far away he means another dimension of Earth that is very hard to get to, at least we Humans don’t really have a way to reach it, at least not alive. The spirit world, heaven, faerie realm, something of that nature. But Diona. Diona is different. Diona is like, on the other side of a black hole or something, the way he describes it . . . almost as if it were Outer Darkness or Hell or something of that nature.

Edit February 17, 2009: Parts of this book can now be seen on a Squidoo lens.

Help with Hell

black birdOld Orchard Beach Sea Shellsblack bird

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

On NaNoWriMo today I found this question: HELP with Hell!

Here is my answer:

1. There is a list of things to get you into hell. What’s on it? (SOOOO important-one needs to qualify my MC’s mom)

    I am a Christian. I grew up in a very strict Christian home. Almost anything could get you sent to Hell.

    When I say strict, I mean VERY:the following were grave sins :

    women were forbidden to:

    * cut their hair
    * wear pants
    * wear skirts above the knee
    * wear short sleeves
    * wear makeup
    * wear jewelry
    * be over 16 years of age and not be married
    * be over 18 years of age and not have at least 4 children
    * work or get jobs

things forbidden to all, both men and women included:

    * drinking
    * smoking
    * coffee
    * tea
    * soda
    * swearing (and you’s be surprised the things that are considered a swear!)
    * public school
    * meat
    * sex outside of marriage

Those sins could get you into a level of Hell that was not as bad as the rest of Hell, but if you repented of them you could be forgiven and avoid Hell altogether.

Those are just the major biggie sins, there are lots of little ones as well, stupid ritual like things… hand washings, wearing special underwear you have to wear, and stuff like that

giant sins like adultery/cheating on partner, rape, murder, divorce, being gay, etc… those things you can’t be forgiven for EVER and were one way tickets to Hell.

at least according to my family’s religion….

me, today, as an adult… I look at them and think… they are nuts!

2. Heaven is going to war with Hell. God didn’t have a say in it. (God isn’t in my novel at the moment… just referenced a few times) Why would the angels want to take over Hell?

    Maybe they thought Hell was not punishing sinners harshly enough?

    or

    Maybe they thought the sinners were being punished too harshly?

    Either way they feel they should take over to make changes to the system.

3. Can someone explain Hell to me? How (in any point of view, many and/or the most common) did it come to be, can you get out of it and why does there need to be one?

    Some Thoughts on Hell
    While on Proboards Support, I came across an interesting thread. Here is the original thread, the question asked, and the multiple choices given. At the time of my adding this here, the poll has 4 pages of comments and debates. In order to vote on this forum poll (or join the discussion and add a comment) you have to be a registered member, but here is the link anyways.
    I dunno (5 votes, 20%)
    God hates you in Hell (1 vote, 4%)
    God doesn’t care for those in Hell (3 votes, 12%)
    No water (0 votes, 0%)
    Never being able to be on Support Proboards again (8 votes, 32%)
    Demons (1 vote, 4%)
    Satan (4 votes, 16%)
    Fire/Other/Others/Mix/Mixes (3 votes, 12%)

(These vote results were taken on May 16, 2008)

I put dunno, cause I have no idea what it would be like or even if there is such a place…. I’ve heard of a dozen or more different interpretations on what hell is or isn’t, and no one really knows anything for certain anyways, I mean, how many people went to hell and came back to tell the tale?

If real demons were anything like fantasy demons (namely Lord Sesshomaru :-* ;D :) ) though, I’d love Hell! LOL! :D ;D

As I said earlier, wither or not there are heaven and hell is debatable, however, I do believe there is an afterlife of some sort.

I do not unnecessarily believe in either heaven or hell. I do not think life after death is all very much different from life here and I believe we well be reunited or even reborn again into the same family circles in the next life as this one and that we have already done so in past lives as well.

Heaven, the way I see it, would be spending eternity with those you love in a peaceful place free of heartache, sickness, and war. If there was a hell, I think it would be a place where we are separated from those we love: our friends, our families, and our pets.

Interesting question, but does the Bible ever use either the actual words “Hell” or “Satan”? Looking in 16 different translations, I only see these words used in the modern day versions (AMP and NKJ) but not in any of the older versions; also there is no historical record of there being a reference to Satan prior to 300 A.D.

4. Who are main demons/angels? Who sided with Lucifer in the first war?

    Are you LDS? The reason I ask, is because as far as I know they are the only religion that teaches there was a *first war*. It comes from the D&C not the Bible (or the BofM either). There is no actual scripture reference to a war in heaven, because there there is no scriptural reference to a place called Hell at all. Most referance to Hell are based on the Greek/Roman mythology stories about Hades.

    Outside of the Catholic church there are pretty much zero demon or angles, because most of them are from the Apocrypha and no other religion uses that set of scripture.

    If it was my story, I’d go with making up my own angels and demons.

5. If the keys to Hell were stolen, what would happen to all the bad souls? Why would Heaven want the keys? What could they do with them? How would that help with #2?

    I can’t think of an answer for this one.

6. Based on your answers for the above, why would the girl side with Hell in the war?

    Maybe she’s just plain feed up with all the *goody-two-shoe* stuff she’s had to put up with living with all her *holier than though* friends and family? She wants to rebel against it, and the best way she can think of to rebel is by joining Hell?

Help with Hell

On NaNoWriMo today I found this question: HELP with Hell!

Here is my answer:

1. There is a list of things to get you into hell. What’s on it? (SOOOO important-one needs to qualify my MC’s mom)

    I am a Christian. I grew up in a very strict Christian home. Almost anything could get you sent to Hell.

    When I say strict, I mean VERY:the following were grave sins :

    women were forbidden to:

    * cut their hair
    * wear pants
    * wear skirts above the knee
    * wear short sleeves
    * wear makeup
    * wear jewelry
    * be over 16 years of age and not be married
    * be over 18 years of age and not have at least 4 children
    * work or get jobs

things forbidden to all, both men and women included:

    * drinking
    * smoking
    * coffee
    * tea
    * soda
    * swearing (and you’s be surprised the things that are considered a swear!)
    * public school
    * meat
    * sex outside of marriage
