Plagiarism Update: Sent Report To WordPress

Plagiarism Update: Sent Report To WordPress

I have just sent a report on this evil thief’s activities to WordPress. I urge anyone with the sewing related WordPress blog to look at the thief’s blog and see if your posts are being stolen. If they are, please send a report to WordPress as well. If there is a way to identify this plager and send them to jail, let me know, because I will pursue that course of action. As an author I take plagiarism very seriously, and so should you. Well, at least they chose the right name for their blog: Scum Bag Clothing. I can’t think of anything that makes a person more of a scumbag than being a thief.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to WordPress:

Posts off of more than 30 different WordPress blogs (all sewing topics) are being copied and posted word for word, picture for picture, on someone else’s blog!

I use CopyScape on my posts, and CopyScape notified me that my posts were being copied and distributed on someone else’s blog without my permission, so I went to their blog to check and CopyScape was right. They copied everything, word for word, picture for picture… even the CopyScape plagiarizing warning gif!

Because they are copying posts off of my sewing blog, so I started checking all the other posts on their blog, and they’ve plagiarized every single post on their blog, by stealing posts and pictures off of other people’s blogs! I’ve only checked the posts for Jun so far, but so far I’ve counted over 30 different WordPress blogs from which they are stealing posts and hotlinking images from!

Here is their blog link:

http://www.scumbagclothing.com/category/dressmaking/

I don’t know how to stop them. I’ve been trying to find a way to notify their blog host, but so far have not had any luck. If you know of a way to stop them from stealing the posts off of our blogs, please let me know, cause I don’t like them claiming that they wrote the articles I wrote. They are even displaying my drawings on their blog and claiming they drew them!

Sorry for the rant, but I thought you’d want to know that they’ve been stealing posts and passing them off as theirs. :(

This is so frustrating. I put so much work into writing my articles and drawing my artwork, and I know other folks do as well. It’d be one thing if they were linking back to our blogs with a review or something, but they are claiming that they wrote all of these posts and drew all of the art and took all of the photos themselves!

Is there a law enforcement agency I can contact about this? I was told that the FBI had an identity theft division that handles online predators that steal other peoples identities. Should I contact the FBI about this? I mean who ever is running this blog is claiming to be me, by saying they wrote those articles, so that’s identity theft as far as I can tell.

What should I do?

Is there anything that you can do about it, since they are stealing posts off of WordPress blogs?

Low votes in squidoo should be banned! (PART 2)

A few days ago I wrote this post on my blog:

Low votes in squidoo should be banned!

. If you haven’t read it yet, than go back and read it, than come back here and read this post.

Remember what I said in that last post, about how every time one of my lenses gets near the top 100, a whole bunch of my lenses get a 1 star rate all at once? Well, low and behold, it has happened once again! As of this morning, three of my lenses are now bouncing off the top 100 list, and within the last hour, 22 of my lenses have been given 1 star rates!

I don’t know about you, but I think Squidoo needs to find out who is doing this and why. It’s happening to often to to many lensmasters, to not be a troll.

I remember a while back someone posting on SquidU bragging that they had done this, and I have since found out that that same person also has several different accounts. It looks to me like they are using their multi accounts to attack other members! Such rudeness!

That also makes me question, why would anyone need more than one account with Squidoo anyways?

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Low votes in squidoo should be banned!

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

I found this lens on Squidoo: Low votes in Squidoo should be banned! Love it, agree with it, here’s my own thoughts on this issue:

If people gave one star ratings because the lens was really bad, than I could understand the one star rates, but so far it looks like people are not using it that way. The way I see the one star rate being used is this:

Every time your lenses hit 100 to 1,000 in lensrank, they get hit by at least one, one star rate, given to you by a member with a lenses that competes with your own, because they are jealous and angry that your lenses and not theirs made it to a high lensrank.

How do I know this is happening? Because I always have 4 or 5 lenses in the top 300 lensrank, and usually about a dozen under 1,000. These lenses and NOT my low ranking lenses are the ones that get the most one star rates! These lenses include my “Lord Sesshomaru Costume” lens and my “Publishing Methods” lens. If you’ve ever seen those two lenses, than you know what I’m talking about, with the one star rate being misuse. Each of those lenses is huge. One has over 10,000 words on it and the other over 20,000 words on it(the size of a novella!). The longer of the two, took me 70 hours (over a period of 4 weeks) just to write the words alone! After writing these up, each lens took me between 2 to 3 hours to read straight through!

The worst day I ever had, was the day in mid-April when 43 of the top ranking lenses were given one star rates all in the same hour! OMG!

I have never had a time, when just one of my lenses was given a one star rate. No, every time, 3, 4, 10, 20, or more are given one star rates all at once. The fact that so many lenses are given one star rates, in such a short time period, indicates to me that the person giving the rates, didn’t even bother to look at the lens, let alone read it. They simply opened it for the sole purpose of giving it a one star rate. That was the reason they opened it, and they never bothered to look and see what it was that they were putting a one star rate one.

If the rating system was being used properly I wouldn’t mind it, but when you have 43 lenses given one star rates in a matter of minutes, you know that the rater did not read those lenses. In order to rate that many that quick, they had to open the page, click one star, close the page, open the next page, click one star, close the page… that just makes me want to scream, the fact that anyone would be so mean as to do something like that!

If the lens is really bad, than I don’t mind one star rates, because that’s what they are there for. However, I don’t use them. I don’t believe in giving out one star rates, because I am willing to give the lensmaster the benefit of a doubt. You see, I know that it takes a lot more than 10 minutes to create a lens. I know that sometimes you see a lens and it looks skimpy and dumpy, but than a week or so later you see that same lens again and now it’s filled out and got loads of stuff on it.

A lensmaster is not on Squidoo 24 hours a day. They have families and jobs and medical emergencies and the real world to deal with. Sometimes they plan on a lens, start it, but than something unexpected happens and they don’t get backk online again for a few days or even a few weeks, and so their lens remains unfinished, even though they had planned on doing more on it. On the other hand some lenses just take a couple of weeks to get finished, esp. if it requires a lot of research to study and an essay to write up for it.

All things considering, I prefer not to give any rate at all, to skimpy lenses, because I would feel terrible if I gave it a one star rate today and than a week later see that the lensmaster was not finished and now it looked like a 5 star lens, but I couldn’t change my vote.

All that said, I have never left anyone anything other than a 4 star or a 5 star. Wither I like the topic or subject of their lens is not an issue with ratings – that’s what the favorites button is for. I look at it and ask myself “How much work did they put into this?”.

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Be Careful Out There

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

One of my friends on MySpace, just had a scary thing happen to him. I second his warning: BEWARE OF PEOPLE YOU MEET ONLINE, not everyone is a nice person.

—————– Bulletin Message —————–
From:
Rick R. Reed
Date: Nov 25, 2007 10:34 PM

Check out my new blog posting to read about a pretty scary experience I had this weekend because of a MySpace “friend.” You really do have to know better…and an author who writes a book about internet predator really should be more careful who he lets into his “space.” A true story.

OMG! what a creepy person! This hasn’t happened to me on MySpace, but it did happen to me on eBay. I used to take on eBay forums a lot, than a flamer started harassing a lot of folks. Sending really freaky messages to about 20 or so folks (I was one of them). At first they were just lame one sentance smart mouthing things, I didn’t respond to him, and figured if I ignored him, he’d go away, but after about a week, he took the messages off the public forum and onto the private email… that’s when things got really scary. The emails went on for page after page, 2,000 or more words per email, and they said stuff like “I have pictures of your family” and “I know where you live” and “I’m going to show up at your front door when you least expect it”. I reported him to eBay, as did the other folks he threatened. eBay banned him and we thought that was the end of it.

Than a few months later he was back on eBay forums, and sending the messages and emails once again.eBay banned him again, and this time banned his ISP. That’s when eBay announced that they did a check and found out that this guy was useing 7 differant computers to send these messages from. They banned all 7 ISP addresses.

But that was not the end. This guy made one last realy freaky attack, that shock us rught to the bone. His next move was to hack into our eBay accounts, and than set out to bidding bids of $5,000 -$7,000 or more for all sort of weird items. I found out about this when PayPal contacted me and told me that an ISP adress from Nigeria, Africa had tried to withdraw funds from my bank account via PayPal, to pay for more than 20 eBay auctions for items variying in price from $2,000 – $7,000 each!!!! OMG! eBay launched an investigation and it was determined that this was once again, the same guy that had been harassing us before and they found him living in Californian.

Why did he do all this? I have no idea. As far as any of us victims, or eBay, or PayPal could determin, he had just picked our eBay usernames at random. None of us had ever talked to the guy prior to this event and none of us knew who he was or why he had set his attack on us.

Sionce that happened, I now cruise the internet allways looking over my shoulder.

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

One of my friends on MySpace, just had a scary thing happen to him. I second his warning: BEWARE OF PEOPLE YOU MEET ONLINE, not everyone is a nice person.

One of my friends on MySpace, just had a scary thing happen to him. I second his warning: BEWARE OF PEOPLE YOU MEET ONLINE, not everyone is a nice person.
