I found a place that pays you to write 400-1500 word articles for their site. I just joined 4 days ago and already I made $15. Here’s the link if you want to join: Join Associated Content

What’s your take on this? I’d love to hear what you have to say about this post. Leave a comment and share your views!

Advice for Writers Just Starting Out

black birdfall leaves centerblack bird

I found myself answering a forum question again:

I don’t know anything about Craigeslist, but as a publisher, I do know that publishers do not place classified ads… tip-toe carefully when dealing with publishers who place classified ads, they are more often than not a scam. The average publisher is so swamped with submissions that they do not need to place ads in classified or on Google and anyplace else for that matter.

If you are just starting out, and want to test the waters, (and get paid for it) I’d suggest you set up three accounts:

http://www.squidoo.com/

http://www.helium.com/

http://www.associatedcontent.com/

(You don’t get paid much from any of these, so far Squidoo pays me the most, I make about $34 a month there; but every little bit helps, right?)

On each of these sites, you write short articles (400 – 1000 words is average), and post them. Than you get paid depending on how many people read your article… pay per click.

It’s not enough to make a living on, but it is a way to get your name out there, and editors and publishers often find (and buy) articles they want to publish, via these sites.

On Squidoo, you “build” an entire web page for each article… it’s a lot like building a blog each time you write an article, so you should have at least a little bit of knowledge useing a blog before you try Squidoo. Onvce you built the page you can edit it as often as you like.

On Helium, you choose a preselected topic and submit an article to it. It is published about 5 seconds later, and than other users vote on it. It must be perfect before submitting though, because you can not edit or make changes after submiting.

On Associated Content, you have to submit each article for review, and it takes about 2 weeks for their editos to get around to putting your article on the site, and they may reject it, or remove it later on.

Squidoo is by far the best, both in terms of user friendlyness, editing ability, and the amount of pay; but haveing articles on all three, well get your name out there in front of more people. When you are just starting out, geting you name out there is more important than getting money. Once you have established yourself as a writer that here to stay, you’ll start getting publishing offers and before you know it, you’ll be getting paid to write.

Hope this helps you out. Good luck!
